Plant Cultivation: Grows and maintains experimental plants in both greenhouse and field settings using best practices.
Seedling & Transplanting: Handles plant propagation, including growing from seeds and executing transplanting processes accurately.
Experiment Maintenance: Maintains detailed and systematic records of both field and lab experiments, supporting scientific accuracy.
Pest and Disease Monitoring: Actively monitors plants for pests and disease and assists with implementing appropriate management strategies.
Research Support: Aids in setup, execution, and documentation of research projects, including data collection and sample preparation.
Inventory & Materials Management: Prepares procurement requests, organizes research materials, and ensures inventory is maintained.
Transportation: Drives to various field sites for research support and transports materials and plant samples as required.
Safety and Cleanliness: Ensures all field and lab environments are clean, well-organized, and compliant with safety protocols.
General Duties: Performs additional research-related duties as assigned, adapting to the evolving needs of the research team.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience in botany, horticulture, ecology, biology, or a related discipline.
A valid Texas driver license (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire), with a clean driving record per university policy.
Note: Additional relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Proven skill in growing, propagating, and maintaining plants; knowledge of pest control and optimal plant health strategies.
Ability to diagnose plant health problems and implement best horticultural practices.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and data entry skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other standard software for documentation and analysis.
Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
Capable of independent work as well as collaborative teamwork.
Physically able and willing to work in outdoor conditions across seasons.
Ability to follow protocols and safety procedures consistently.
Competence in basic mathematical calculations and research data analysis.
